Senior Embedded Software Engineer

About the role

You will lead the controls approach for DTE’s measurement and sampling solutions, shaping the embedded software architecture, safety functions, plant interfaces and conventions that enable repeatable, high‑performance deployments. This hands‑on individual contributor role combines technical authority with deep involvement in writing and validating control software, both in the lab and on production plants.

Key responsibilities

• Define a reusable software and controls architecture across sampling, robot cell, induction heating, gas handling and interlock variants.
• Develop embedded and control software, including real‑time sequencing, state machines, device and sensor interfaces, diagnostics and HMI.
• Design and validate safety‑related control functions to EN ISO 13849 or SIL under EN IEC 62061, providing evidence for CE conformity.
• Integrate with customer plant systems using Modbus, EtherNet/IP and OPC UA, and collaborate on I/O architecture and component selection.
• Support commissioning, third‑level troubleshooting remotely and occasionally on‑site.
• Raise engineering standards through code reviews, conventions and testing, turning field feedback into design improvements.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of experience developing C/C++ or PLC control systems for industrial equipment.
• Strong background in embedded software design, real‑time behavior, state machines, and sensor/actuator interfaces.
• Self‑starter capable of tackling ambiguous problems, defining approaches and delivering solutions.

Required skills

• C/C++ programming
• PLC development
• RTOS and Embedded Linux environments
• Beckhoff TwinCAT
• B&R Automation Studio
• Modbus communication
• EtherNet/IP communication
• OPC UA integration
