Backend Engineer – Cloud Security Platform

About the role

Upwind is looking for an experienced Backend Engineer to join its Cloud Security Platform team in Iceland. You will work on cutting‑edge cloud‑native technologies, helping to protect customers' cloud infrastructure through innovative runtime‑based risk analysis.

Key responsibilities

• Own the full lifecycle of short‑term projects, from design through production monitoring and maintenance.
• Perform reliability and performance analysis on Golang and/or Java services.
• Contribute to architectural designs, capacity planning, and define service‑level objectives.
• Conduct design and code reviews within a cross‑functional engineering group.
• Collaborate with Frontend, DevOps, and Product teams to deliver high‑impact features.
• Build highly scalable, reliable, and performant backend systems across multi‑cloud environments.
• Continuously improve engineering practices, observability, and system performance.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field.
• 3+ years of backend engineering experience, preferably with Golang and/or Java.
• Strong grasp of software engineering principles, system design, and distributed systems.
• Hands‑on experience with major cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).
• Experience building data‑intensive systems, including databases, event streams, and messaging.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and microservices architectures.
• Excellent problem‑solving, analytical, and communication skills.
