Materials Scientist – AI Training Contractor

About the role

This is an hourly, remote contractor position where you will act as a Materials Science Subject Matter Expert. You will review AI‑generated materials content, create high‑quality reference answers, and provide detailed feedback to improve scientific accuracy and clarity.

Key responsibilities

• Develop AI training content by writing prompts and gold‑standard answers across metals, ceramics, polymers, composites, phase diagrams, heat treatment, mechanical testing, corrosion, nanomaterials, and characterization.
• Evaluate and rank AI outputs to enhance scientific accuracy, engineering logic, terminology, and structure‑property reasoning.
• Detect misleading claims, hallucinated properties, flawed processing recommendations, unsafe design assumptions, and incorrect diagrams, ensuring model integrity.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy, Polymer Science, Nanotechnology, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Minimum C1 level English proficiency for detailed written feedback.
• At least 3 years of experience in materials research, engineering, laboratory work, manufacturing, teaching, technical writing, or academic review.
• Deep understanding of structure‑property relationships, crystal structures, phase diagrams, mechanical behavior, heat treatment, polymers, ceramics, metals, composites, corrosion, and characterization techniques.
• Ability to identify hallucinated material properties, unsafe engineering suggestions, and unsupported performance claims.
