Network Support Engineer

About the role

The Network Support Engineer provides on‑site hands‑and‑feet assistance to enable remote troubleshooting of enterprise network equipment. Working closely with a remote support team, the role involves physical access to switches, routers, firewalls and related infrastructure at customer sites.

Key responsibilities

• Perform physical tasks such as opening racks, locating devices/ports, power cycling equipment, and verifying LED, link, and alarm status.
• Rack‑mount and unmount network devices, patch and dress cables to basic professional standards, and coordinate post‑install verification with the remote team.
• Connect to console ports, grant remote access sessions, and execute clearly provided command steps under supervision.
• Document visual verification results, cable reseating, label checks, and report findings to the remote support team.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Computer Science, IT, Network Engineering or related field (preferred) and at least 2 years of hands‑on experience supporting enterprise networks.
• Basic knowledge of TCP/IP, VLANs, switches, routers and firewalls, and familiarity with structured cabling and patch panels.
• Ability to follow detailed technical instructions, work independently on‑site, and communicate effectively with remote teams.
• Willingness to travel to customer locations and hold Working at Heights and Medical Fitness certificates.

Required skills

• Console cable usage (RJ45‑to‑USB, USB‑C, mini‑USB)
• Terminal software such as PuTTY for console access
• Network device installation and rack‑and‑stack procedures
• Structured cabling, patch‑panel handling, and cable labeling
• Configuration of switches, routers and firewalls (basic management IP/VLAN)
• Hardware troubleshooting and visual verification of device status
• Documentation and reporting of on‑site activities
