Senior Upstream Biotechnologist

About the role

Alvotech is seeking a Senior Upstream Biotechnologist to lead fermentation, seed‑train, and media‑preparation activities in a cGMP environment. You will work rotating day, evening, and night shifts, ensuring reliable production of high‑quality biologic medicines.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the technical and operational SME for all upstream processes.
• Execute fermentation and seed‑train operations with strict adherence to process requirements.
• Prepare, handle, and document media according to established SOPs.
• Own QMS tasks such as deviations, CAPAs, and investigations, ensuring timely closure.
• Analyze process data, identify trends, and support stability and improvement initiatives.
• Support technology transfer, validation, and scale‑up projects.
• Troubleshoot technical issues and mentor team members.
• Maintain full compliance with cGMP, EHS, and site procedures, including GMP documentation and inspection readiness.

Required profile

• BSc or higher in Biotechnology, Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of industry experience in upstream bioprocessing.
• Strong problem‑solving abilities and deep understanding of fermentation and seed‑train processes.
• Commitment to operational excellence and ability to work rotating shifts.
