Job description

About the role

Siemens Healthineers is hiring a Staff Detector Scientist specializing in PET electronics. You will lead the research, development and implementation of advanced detectors and electronics for next-generation Positron Emission Tomography (PET) imaging systems. The role is a hands-on, individual contributor R&D position combining detector physics, analog and digital electronics, signal processing and system architecture with active laboratory work, prototyping and validation. It does not include direct people management or formal project management.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead research, design and development of PET detector electronics and hardware for molecular imaging systems
  • Develop detector readout architectures including analog front-end electronics, ASIC interfaces, FPGA-based processing, high-speed data acquisition and digital electronics
  • Design, build, test and validate hardware through schematics, PCB design, prototyping, debugging and characterization
  • Run feasibility studies, simulations and experiments to evaluate emerging technologies
  • Analyze performance, identify limitations and improve reliability and imaging performance
  • Integrate detector electronics with sensors, data acquisition systems and PET imaging platforms
  • Move technologies from research concepts to commercially viable products
  • Work with R&D, systems engineering, manufacturing, quality, regulatory and product management teams, and with suppliers and academic partners
  • Contribute inventions, patents and publications, and guide engineering and scientific teams technically

Required profile

  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Physics, Nuclear Engineering or a related discipline
  • About 5-10 years of R&D experience, including hands-on development of PET detector electronics in academia or industry
  • Experience with analog and digital circuit design, schematic capture, PCB design, prototyping and debugging
  • Understanding of PET detector architectures, signal acquisition and readout electronics
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and external partners

Required skills

  • Analog and digital circuit design, low-noise electronics and signal processing
  • ASIC interfaces, FPGAs, microcontrollers and embedded systems
  • High-speed data acquisition
  • Scientific programming and embedded tools such as Python, C/C++ and FPGA development environments

What we offer

  • Base pay range of $148,150 - $203,709, depending on geography, skills, education and experience
  • Medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), life insurance and disability coverage
  • Paid time off, paid sick and safe time, and paid parking or public transportation
