Assistant Director of Nutrition Services

About the role

The Assistant Director of Nutrition Services supports the Director of Nutrition Services in daily operations of an Opaa! food‑management program serving school districts. The role combines production, administrative and supervisory tasks to ensure safe, cost‑effective food service and high client satisfaction.

Key responsibilities

• Arrange substitute staffing and cover on‑line positions as needed.
• Transport food products between district buildings and maintain a clean, organized work area.
• Ensure compliance with Opaa! recipes, menus and HACCP temperature monitoring.
• Maintain production and inventory records, input invoices, reconcile daily cash reports and update weekly inventory spreadsheets.
• Assist in preparing monthly in‑service meetings, NAC meetings and Board status reports.
• Support marketing initiatives and coordinate catering events.
• Assist the DNS in supervising kitchen staff, handling performance issues and providing cross‑training.
• Communicate effectively with customers and stakeholders to ensure satisfaction.

Required profile

• Experience in food service or school nutrition operations.
• Knowledge of HACCP and food safety regulations.
• Ability to manage inventory, cash handling and basic bookkeeping.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Willingness to work on‑site in a kitchen environment.
