Psychiatrist

About the role

The Akureyri Hospital is seeking a board‑certified psychiatrist to provide continuous mental health care for its patients. The position can be arranged as full‑time, part‑time, or another fixed schedule, based on mutual agreement.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver psychiatric assessments, diagnoses, and treatment plans for in‑patients and out‑patients.
• Maintain continuity of care over an extended period.
• Participate in on‑call duties, responding to emergencies within 30 minutes.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient support.

Required profile

• Specialist (board‑certified) qualification in psychiatry.
• Fluency in English; Icelandic language skills are a strong advantage.
• Willingness to obtain Icelandic medical authorization (application fee approx. 600 ISK, processing up to six weeks).
• Ability to be reachable by phone at all times during on‑call periods.

• Clinical expertise in psychiatric evaluation and treatment.
