Registered Nurse – PACU (PRN) – Same Day Surgery

About the role

We are seeking a PRN Registered Nurse to provide high‑quality care in our Post‑Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) for same‑day surgery patients. The RN will assume full responsibility for post‑operative patient monitoring, medication administration, and discharge according to physician orders and facility policies.

Key responsibilities

• Assess, develop, and implement comprehensive nursing care plans for post‑operative patients.
• Administer medications and treatments ordered by physicians, ensuring proper documentation and charge capture.
• Monitor patients for changes in physical or mental status and report abnormalities promptly.
• Provide pain and nausea management, accurately assessing the need for medication.
• Discharge patients safely, following facility protocols and providing psychological support to patients and families.
• Maintain accurate records, charge sheets, and supply inventories.
• Function independently in emergency situations, making rapid, sound clinical decisions.
• Assist in orientation of new staff and act as a resource for departmental policies.

Required profile

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program with a current Registered Nurse license.
• Minimum of 2 years experience in a PACU or Ambulatory Surgery Center (preferred).
• Current American Heart Association certifications: BLS, ACLS, and PALS.
• Commitment to continuing education and meeting CEU requirements for licensure renewal.

Required skills

• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification.
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification.
• Medication administration and dosage calculation.
• Pain and nausea assessment.
