Engineering Manager - Infrastructure (EVE Online)
Fenris Creations · Reykjavik
Job description
About the role
Fenris Creations is hiring an Engineering Manager to lead the infrastructure engineering team behind EVE Online, a 20-year persistent online game. The team owns its infrastructure end-to-end: on-premise servers and network gear, AWS cloud networks and Golang services, plus incident, change management, testing, alerting, automation and budget processes. The role is based in Reykjavík, Iceland, in a hybrid office with flexible in-office days.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the team: hire, coach and grow infrastructure engineers, run 1:1s, give performance feedback and guide career growth.
- Set team priorities across new platform work, game-team requests, operational load and technical debt, and run planning with product owners and other engineering leads.
- Own reliability: run incident management (on-call rotations, escalation paths, alerting, blameless postmortems), guide production change management and define and track SLIs and SLOs.
- Guide architecture for on-premise and AWS environments, oversee hardware lifecycle, and own network design and security.
- Push for automation in provisioning, configuration, CI/CD and observability.
- Set cloud and on-premise infrastructure budgets, forecast spend, manage vendor relationships and find cost savings without compromising reliability.
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 8+ years in infrastructure, systems, site reliability or distributed systems engineering.
- 2+ years managing engineers directly, including hiring and performance management.
- Strong grasp of distributed systems and hands-on experience running physical hardware in a datacenter.
- Comfortable reading and reviewing code in Golang or Python; strong English technical writing and communication.
Required skills
- Distributed systems, cloud networking and security (AWS VPCs, Transit Gateways, BGP, firewalls).
- Incident response, on-call and postmortem practices.
- Nice to have: RabbitMQ, NATS, DynamoDB, Redis, Terraform, Ansible, OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, and game-services background.
What we offer
- Dual-monitor workstation and flexible work environment.
- Canteen with weekly breakfast and lunch menus, drinks and snacks.
- Discretionary quarterly and annual performance sharing plan, annual sports grant, relocation package and home internet.
- Free on-site doctor and other on-site services at a discount, and a mobile phone and plan.
