Small Animal Veterinarian

About the role

A permanent full-time position is available for a motivated Small Animal Veterinarian, based at Dýraspítalinn Glæsibær EHF, a modern veterinary hospital in Skagafjörður, Northwest Iceland. The hospital provides comprehensive care for horses and small animals, combining ambulatory services with in-clinic diagnostics, surgery and inpatient care.

Key responsibilities

• Provide high-quality veterinary care for small animal patients (consultations, diagnostics, treatment)
• Perform and interpret diagnostics such as ultrasound, digital X-ray and laboratory tests
• Carry out soft-tissue surgery and/or assist in surgery depending on experience
• Perform dental work for small animals depending on skill set
• Communicate clearly and empathetically with owners and clients
• Keep medical records and work closely with colleagues

Required profile

• Veterinary degree with eligibility for licensure or registration
• At least one to two years of practical experience as a small animal veterinarian
• Willingness to learn the local specifics of veterinary practice in Iceland
• Team player with a strong sense of responsibility and quality standards
• Fluent English for daily work
• Full driver's licence
